The West Side of Colorado Springs dates back to the mid 1800’s. The area is a cornerstone of local history. During the nineteenth century, many newcomers visited and settled into the Colorado City area located along Colorado Avenue, now known as Old Colorado City.  Some settlers came for mining and the gold rush. Other people arrived to build the railroad. Visitors from the eastern United States also enjoyed summer vacations here.

The settlers are now gone, but the west side remains a central area for tourist attractions. One of the most popular visitor sites is the amazing geological and outdoor treasure, Garden of the Gods Park.  The Garden of the Gods Visitors Center and Garden of the Gods Trading Post are also close by. Also found on the west side is the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site, the famous Glen Eyrie Castle, home of the founder of Colorado Springs, General William Jackson Palmer, Cave of the Winds, Manitou Springs, Old Colorado City, The Cog Railway, Miramont Castle, Seven Falls, and the world famous Broadmoor Hotel.

Homes on the Westside vary from older Victorian Style Homes dating back to the early 1900’s and prior, Arts & Crafts bungalows of the 1920’s and 30’s, ranchers built during the 1950’s and 1960’s, and of course, the higher-end luxury homes of today. The Westside Neighborhoods include Old Colorado City, renowned for its’ beautiful Victorian homes and historic feel, the prestigious and luxurious neighborhoods of Cedar Heights and Kissing Camels Estates, the charming Pleasant Valley and Mesa Heights neighborhoods, and the newer planned communities of Gold Hill Mesa and Crown Hill Mesa.  At the western most point of Colorado Avenue, nestled at the base of the mountains, is the city of Manitou Springs.
